What the free letter includes
- One letter for one child, personalized with their name and details you add.
- The Simple Christmas design: white page, green heading and small stars, made to use little ink.
- No watermark when you print or save the PDF.
- A4 or US Letter — you choose before printing.
- Edit every word. The letter maker can draft it with AI (2 free drafts a day), and you can change it by hand as much as you like.
- No sign-up. Your draft is kept in this browser for 24 hours, so print or save the PDF when you're happy with it.
What isn't free
Letters for brothers and sisters, the three other designs (Candy Cane Post, Woodland and Classic), and the matching Nice List certificate and envelope come with the Family Pack ($4.99 one-time, up to 3 children). You can preview those in the letter maker, but the preview is watermarked. We don't post anything — you print the letter yourself.
An example letter
Here's part of the sample letter we wrote for a fictional boy, Oliver, from three small details his parent typed in:
- Something they did: “He helped his sister learn to read.”
- What they love: “dinosaurs and drawing”
- What to encourage: “being brave at his new swim class”
Dear Oliver,
I heard you helped your sister learn to read this year. Sitting beside her and sounding out the words one by one takes real patience, and that kind of help is a wonderful gift. I also heard you love dinosaurs and drawing. The elves would love to see a stegosaurus wearing a Santa hat!
I know swim class is new, and new things can feel a little scary. Being brave doesn't mean you never feel nervous. It means you try anyway, one splash at a time. I'm cheering for you.
With love from the North Pole,
Santa
Sample text. Your child's letter is written from the details you give, and you can rewrite any of it.
How it works
- Tell us about your child. Their first name, age group (4–6 or 7–9), and optionally something they did this year, what they love, and something to encourage.
- Read and edit. A draft letter appears in the Simple Christmas design. Change any sentence, or write it yourself.
- Print or save a PDF. Pick A4 or US Letter and use your browser's print dialog. On a phone, choose “Save as PDF” and print it later.
It takes a few minutes. A tip from us: write something specific — “learned to ride a bike without training wheels” makes a better letter than “was good this year”.
Printing tips for a printable Santa letter
- Match the paper size. US Letter in the US and Canada, A4 in the UK and most other places. Choose the same size in the letter maker and in the print dialog.
- Scale 100% (or “Actual size”), not “Fit to page”, so the margins stay even.
- Ordinary printer paper is fine. Cream or slightly heavier paper looks lovely if you have it.
- Low on ink? The free design is already low-ink and looks fine in black and white.

Ideas for giving it
Fold the letter in thirds and leave it by the stocking, tuck it next to the cookie plate on Christmas Eve, or read it aloud at breakfast. Younger children (4–6) usually enjoy hearing it read by a grown-up; 7–9 year olds often like reading it themselves.
